During a car accident, Vincent Eastman (Richard Gere) watches his whole life flash before his eyes, and he doesn't like what he sees. While maintaining the semblance of a marriage with his wife, Sally (Sharon Stone), Vincent has been carrying on with a mistress, Olivia (Lolita Davidovich). She's everything Sally isn't -- warm, passionate, carefree. So why can't he choose between the two, especially when his indecision is taking its toll on his daughter (Jenny Morrison) ?

Mark Rydell directs, often with a leaden hand, but the film is intriguingly structured and has the kind of bittersweet, double-edged ending too rare in mainstream Hollywood these days.

Stone deserves some points for playing a recognizable human being while Davidovich fares less well in an underscripted part, but what sabotages the story altogether is Gere's boundless narcissism.

Sharon Stone and Lolita Davidovich's characters are essentially just nauseating ciphers built around Richard Gere's incredibly narcissistic and leniently portrayed architect.

Beautiful love story! As well done as the original with Romy! The first meeting between Vincent and Olivia, in the auction scene, is wonderful. “Would like to sit down?” Beautiful performance by Lolita, a good choice opposite Sharon. To see and see again!

Turned it off after one hour.....flashbacks from his past with wife and girlfriend were annoying and not seamless. Viewer became more and more apathetic to whatever the hell any of them did,felt, or said. Thought it was very bad and then saw critic rating of 9% which I knew my assessment was accurate. Didn't even realize that the movie was a review of his life as his car crashes as his face looked scared and then a sex scene with girlfriend. Very poorly organized....characters had no depth and we could care less about their "problems"

Richard Gere is a TOTAL LOSER in this film! Every scene is about him and tries to overshadow a solid performance by Sharon Stone. The second woman is a forgettable character - just one more hooker for Gere. The script struggles to form a family unit with ex-wife and child, but misses when EVERYTHING revolves around the sefl-absorbed Gere. I give the film a minus 50!!

mediocre movie saved by the star's appeal.protagonist is not very likeable is he?but he is lucky to have gere embody him.i think that the biggest mistake made is giving this movie a bad ending.actually if you omit the last 10 minutes it's probably an ok movie.oh,and why did they give you the end from the beginning?very poor choice.and to think you have gere,sharon,and davidovich plus landau and shelby.nice scenery also give the movie a little boost.and it needs wherever it can get..
