The best part about it is how we actually see John Wick operate as a hitman hunting a target for the only time in the franchise. That was really cool! The action is still top tier, and honestly, some of the sequences here might even be better than the first movie. The worldbuilding is the biggest upgrade the whole assassin society stuff is way more fleshed out, and it makes the movie feel bigger in a good way. But at the same time, it loses a bit of the simplicity that made the first one feel so tight. The story is more complicated, and while it's interesting, it doesn't hit me emotionally the same way. It's still great, just not as clean or focused. Keanu is still perfect as Wick, the choreography is still insane, and the pacing is solid. It's just not quite at the 4.5 star for me because the emotional hook isn't as strong and the plot gets a little messy. In short: Amazing action, great expansion of the world, but not as personally impactful as the first.
