Located off the coast of Costa Rica, the Jurassic World luxury resort provides a habitat for an array of genetically engineered dinosaurs, including the vicious and intelligent Indominus rex. When the massive creature escapes, it sets off a chain reaction that causes the other dinos to run amok. Now, it's up to a former military man and animal expert to use his special skills to save two young brothers and the rest of the tourists from an all-out, prehistoric assault.

For the same reason that the otherwise okay Fast and Furious sequels have taken on a previously unimaginable level of quality and prominence, Jurassic World works as a charming, dumb-fun summer blockbuster far better than it really has any right to.

Just as the dictionary definition of "spectacle" states, the blockbuster is unusual, notable, and entertaining in an eye-catching, dramatic, and very public way. It is big, loud, and dumb, but, hot damn, it sure is fun.

7.3/10. The characters are really shallow but I can see what they were trying to with each of them, especially with what see saw in the next two films. The movie actually shines when the Indominus escapes and tells a pretty decent action/adventure science fiction flick that doesn't let up thanks to some excellent pacing.

Jurassic World is very entertaining because its best idea is showing the park actually open. Crowds, attractions, corporate branding, hotels, gyrospheres, feeding shows, and a working dinosaur resort give the franchise a fresh angle while fulfilling the promise Hammond never achieved. The Indominus Rex is a strong monster concept, built to be bigger, smarter, scarier, and more marketable. It fits the movie’s themes about corporate excess and manufactured spectacle while giving the story a clear threat. The blockbuster momentum is also strong, from the Mosasaurus feeding to the raptor chase to the final dinosaur showdown. Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard are fine, but Owen and Claire are not as interesting as Grant, Ellie, Malcolm, or Hammond. The trained raptor idea is entertaining but a little silly, pushing the dinosaurs closer to action-movie fantasy. Still, Jurassic World is polished, fast, and easy to enjoy.
