Dave (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), aka Kick-Ass, and Mindy (Chloë Grace Moretz), aka Hit Girl, are trying to live as normal teenagers and briefly form a crime-fighting team. After Mindy is busted and forced to retire as Hit Girl, Dave joins a group of amateur superheroes led by Col. Stars and Stripes (Jim Carrey), a reformed mobster. Just as Dave and company start to make a real difference on the streets, the villain formerly known as Red Mist (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) rears his head yet again.

Definitely a step down from the first film but it still has its moments. The school girl subplot with Mindy felt unnecessary and strange. I think my biggest problem is that it tried to do too many things but didn't stick to one of those, which left it feeling a bit scatterbrained. The film has a completely different feel compared to its predecessor, and you can definitely tell the director was changed. The original was clever and witty, and the sequel can feel archetypal. Some of the characters also felt overly dramatic and mean-spirited. I was a fan of some of the action scenes and it presents neat ideas, but the film can feel unweighty balancing it all. It's worth a watch and you could do a lot worse, but some of the choices made left me scratching my head. In many instances, there were moments of brilliance and glimmers of the original movie, but then it went off in some perplexing direction. There's a really great movie in there somewhere though, which frustrates me all the more
