D3Z 1 @RT51637195 Apr 25 Even though Peter Jackson's direction, the impressive visual effects and Namo Watts' performance were certainly the main highlights of the King Kong feature, unfortunately the other aspects from the long runtime made this film feel rather bloated especially within its first act that took quite a while for the story to cook. Mind boggling special effects, I love the fact that the CGI rendering of the Empire State building actually took four months longer to render than being physically built. Gripping and entertaining See more Chris L @Christoph2000 Mar 25 This is a visually astonishing marvel, of course, but with Naomi Watts being given more to do besides scream her head off it's provided real soulfulness too. The two wildly different ecosystems intrinsic to the plot are equally mesmerising to absorb. Kong is a majestic ape and one of the greatest characters in all of cinema, and who better than Andy Serkis (a one-off actor if the term was to ever accurately apply to anybody) to bring him to life? Given Kong is definitely a victim and not a villain, my overall preference remains the MonsterVerse since he's so far survived over there. That ending, whilst as heartbreaking as it desires to be, is ridiculously protracted and the 3 hour runtime is unjustified; clearly one of Peter Jackson's only bad instincts from Lord of the Rings was held over here. This is further seen in some bollocks that should never have made the final cut: so many survivors from that stampede? Kong fails to break that frozen lake? Jimmy's shooting aim is perfect? Hmm See more Sonofspam64 T @RT04622880 Mar 24 Great effects. Everything else sucks. For whatever reason, the Kong story was turned into a human/giant ape love story. Naomi Watts mostly stares while being pretty at the ape wistfully, and thanks to her steel bones manages to still be alive after being brutally shaken like a rag doll by her monkey lover. She tries to stop people from hurting Kong while he is actively murdering dozens of people per second. There are very long sequences that do not advance the story, they just show off CGI for the pimple faced kids to cheer at. The rusty old ship they take to Skull Island has crew big enough to staff a modern cruise ship. No matter how many of them die there are still dozens left. The ship captain is portrayed as competent, then gets manipulated into capturing Kong instead of fleeing the island by one stupid remark by Jack Black, who is himself miscast as a greedy evil type. It looks great, but is a very stupid 3.5 hour waste of your life. See more Jonathan O @RT41230270 Mar 20 Absolutely mind-blowing vfx and truly amazing scale of monsters and Peter Jackson did really great remaking to original black and white version and there's a nod to Jackson's horror comedy Braindead aka Dead Alive and the casting are outstanding but Andy Serkis really delivers a triumph motion capture performance since Gollum.
