Ed . @RT01276001 Aug 29, 2025 Not nearly as offensive or as condescending as one might think, unless one is an insufferable wokester. See more CRIS B @RT16843892 May 1, 2025 I Would Figure That How Confusing It Would Be: If a Woman Who Was Running For President More Often. Causing a major stir throughout for those who would have been mighty scared of a Woman for President of the United States. But the husband/spouse would be in possible conflict, I would really not know. You could also see for yourself what the World would be like if you were see this Movie first hand. See more David K @RT61474040 May 15, 2023 Typical early 60's comedy. Smoothly done but not that funny. Here's the joke...Fred MacMurray is a successful business man who now is the First Man. It's hard to adapt. That's all folks. See more Jul 6, 2014 Comedy with the unbelievable premiss that, believe it or not, a WOMAN is elected president! Okay, just kidding, but this film does treat the notion with the expected 1960s sexism, focusing the film less about Polly Bergan's presidency and instead makes the film about her husband, Fred MacMurray, having a hard time finding himself in "woman's role" as the first lady/gentleman. Besides sexism, there's also a healthy dose of racist comedy, with Eli Wallach playing a Latin American dictator. There are some entertaining screwball bits in the film, but it's hard for this to overcome the the more offensive elements of the film, along with the "serious" plot lines involving childrearing and MacMurray and an old girlfriend of the Bergan. Most offensive is the ending of the film, where (SPOILER) Bergan announces that she's pregnant and then resigns as president. See more s r @ScottR Jan 11, 2013 Makes a comedy out of having the first woman president. It was interesting, but ultimately weak. See more Jan 11, 2009 Not too bad for an oldie moldy. :) See more Read all reviews
