It's an achingly moving film, brought to life by a knockout ensemble cast (Penélope Cruz has a standout cameo) and delightfully rich cinematography and production design from Gris Jordana and Roger Bellés respectively.

What is supposed to be a tale of queerness as seen across three generations is instead a gimmicky mishmash of styles populated by mostly one-dimensional characters.

The film's narrative ties together reality and fiction in its events and characters, to give us one of the most emotionally ingenious stories in recent times. [Full review in Spanish]

Breathtakingly beautiful, and sometimes even dreamlike, with an aching tenderness that makes its moments of war brutality even more wrenching—especially when one character must do something that breaks his heart…and will probably break yours.

A beautiful sad and often angry story. The inter-mingling of timeframes, settings and generation story lines commands a great deal of close attention. Easy to lose the thread sometimes.
