Peter W @RT12077588 Oct 24, 2026 I still remember witnessing Light It Up on a preview cassette while working at a Video Ezy store. I was a student at the time of its release, and while the film struck me much harder back then than it does today, there’s still something memorable about it. It has some great themes and messaging, and at its core, Light It Up puts up a decent fight to be both dramatic and touching, particularly with its musical score and heartbreaking conclusion. The performances are mostly great, although some of the line deliveries can be surprisingly uneven. Vanessa Williams and Sarah Gilbert feel somewhat unnecessary, adding to the runtime without contributing all that much. Even so, Light It Up remains a memorable 90s drama, and its leading characters are bound to connect with many viewers. It’s certainly worth a watch if you’re looking for a dramatic title with that unmistakable 90s flavour written all over it. See more Aug 11, 2014 terrible script for a workable premise, it's over-thinking and bad acting that sinks this Titanic full of high-voltage names.. See more Sep 19, 2013 "Usher" Raymond what a joke. See more Jul 5, 2013 Very suspenseful, however, this movie was awful! It kind of makes the precedent that if you don't get what you want you can break the law (i.e. hold someone hostage as they did in the movie). This would have been much more touching if it had a better story line. See more Jan 26, 2013 It seems like a very goodbmovie.
