Critics Consensus

Limbo probes Aboriginal injustices with a patient eye, using the scars of history as the backdrop and basis for a powerfully minimalist mystery.

The narrative invariably feels like merely a framework for Sen’s carefully cultivated black-and-white mood, immersing us in a parched, faded world of loss, anger and hiding.

It's a strong movie. There are very few movies that I've seen from Australia that play this story up.

Everyone has heard the old saw that it’s not the destination but rather the journey that matters. That’s certainly the case with “Limbo,” which I found weirdly compelling despite its lack of resolution.

A masterwork of crime storytelling that takes you far beyond the case and into the underlying depressive state that sinks its teeth into the victims long after they’ve lost hope.

Almost every single second of Limbo is completely devoid of anything other than a static delivery that goes no deeper than the thinnest surface.

Nice to watch as a piece of slow moving photographies, that would suit any hipster café. But as as a movie this is unbearingly arty farty.

Slow, beautifully shot, thought-provoking. My last several days were overly busy and stimulating. This movie was perfect to calm me down.

Strong work by the director, writer, and cast. Very pertinent themes here of indigenous peoples being still systemically impoverished, disenfranchised, and refused justice as opposed to what the experience is for the racial/cultural majority. 3.3 stars

An exercise in "progressive " stereotypes. The cop who reopens the case is a tough loner, covered in tattoos. At the end of the day he relaxes shooting some heroin as I assume every reasonable police officer does. When his original unassuming Toyota gets damaged he is almost left without transportation EXCEPT there is an old huge Chevrolet to complete his equipment. The rest of the story and the other characters are as naturalistic. I wasted 47 minutes. There are 61 more to go. Good luck!

Interesting but slow and no ending. Did a good job of showing how bleak it was living in an almost deserted mining town. Simon Baker looks bad with his hair cut off.
