Critics Consensus

Love at First Sight gets a lot of mileage out of its quirky narrative gimmick and the chemistry of its appealing leads; although it's undermined somewhat by a lackluster script, this is still an above-average rom-com overall.

Some sweet moments, but overall I think Haley [Lu Richardson] can do more.

Its lackluster script never gives us enough reason to believe in the couple’s rightness for each other or care about how they get to the happy ending.

Love at First Sight is a charming rom-com that asks us what love – especially love at first sight – means: is it fate or is it statistics? Maybe for Hadley and Oliver, it’s both.

It’s not a great rom com. It doesn’t reinvent the wheel. But Haley Lu Richardson and Ben Hardy are charming and there’s a great supporting performance from Sally Phillips.

The script started really strong. There was chemistry between the 2 leads, it was funny. Then, at some point, it becomes a bit depressing, which is a shame, because i was hoping for it to maintain a lighthearted energy throughout, even if it seemed to be a movie more fit for teenagers/young adults. It's not that the movie became bad; quite the opposite. I just think they could have kept the same vibes from the begginning. Or not deviate from it for so long with real life (but sad) stuff. The end statistics also didn't need to go into more sad/depressing details, when the movie touched on those subjects for what seemed to be the majority of its runtime. But again, at least it was different. It was still entertaining and different enough from your typical romantic comedies.

I thought this was an outstanding movie. One of my favorite re-watchable rom films. It's no You've Got Mail, but it's got real charm.

Actors are great, there's definite chemistry between the two leads and the movie starts strong, but the plot is just absolute rubbish. There's no real challenge to overcome, and the entire tone of the movie is depressing. Almost didn't bother to finish watching, only left it on as background noise.
