Critics Consensus

Maggie lurches a bit clumsily at times, but is partially redeemed by strong performances and an unexpectedly thoughtful tone.

Maggie could have been a rare treat... Instead, what we get is a genuinely new take that winds up feeling, somehow, like the same old stuff we've seen a million times before.

It's a serious, heartfelt, dramatic turn, and he totally nails it. I'm as surprised as you are.

Breslin is affecting as the ordinary young woman beneath the festering flesh, while Arnie shows a delicacy you'd never have suspected, at least not from his current TV ads with meerkats.

Maggie is a film of subtlety with a different kind of horror that tears at the heartstrings more than the flesh, and which also sees Little Miss Sunshine star Breslin make the seamless transition from child star to serious actress.

A film that deals more with heady emotional concepts than surviving a viral apocalypse, Maggie is the perfect actor’s showcase for a man long thought to have given up drama.

Why the low ratings? Good solid zombie film with great acting. Lighten up, critics.

Underrated. It’s not perfect but the plot is interesting

I think this movie is really under-rated. The acting was really good and the story line resonated. More a drama than a zombie movie.

Love Arnie movies and love zombie movies but this is just very dull. Took me several goes to get through this. Slow burning with not a lot happening. Pretty pointless watch in the end.

Lots of reasons to like this movie, but it ultimately fails. Great take on a zombie movie, with more drama than fright. Arnold did a good job but it was not enough to help me enjoy the film more.

Far from flawless (what's with the relentless close-ups?). Yet surprises with its poignancy. Arnie tries gamely and almost pulls it off.
