Zach W. @zwreviews Mar 6 I had the chance to see Mars with Sam Brown and Timmy Williams in attendance for a live Q&A. Before watching the film, I was entirely unaware of The Whitest Kids U’ Know as I had never seen any sketches of comedy troupe before. After learning about how this film came to creation, it’s clear that Mars is a truly special project. I genuinely don’t know how to describe this project other than Mars is an animated science fiction, comedy film. The comedy troupe began writing this film together in 2012 and only secured the rights to release it fourteen years later. During this time, one of the writers - Trevor Moore - tragically passed away. Despite these obstacles, Mars remains a project that embodies a charming feeling of friendship. This film is beautiful for its ability to capture the friendship and dedication necessary to make this project a reality. The story is hilarious and the comedic writing delivers countless laughs. I genuinely think there is something really special about Mars because it feels so personal to the creators’ stories and experiences. The film palpates the friendship of the cast and crew. Though the story devolves into extreme silliness at times, the ambitiousness of its comedic storytelling is praiseworthy. I really enjoyed my experience with Mars and learning more about what this film meant to Sam Brown and Timmy Williams. I think Mars is a perfect example of the power of filmmaking and storytelling.
