When Thor's evil brother, Loki (Tom Hiddleston), gains access to the unlimited power of the energy cube called the Tesseract, Nick Fury (Samuel L. Downey's Stark/Iron Man steals the show because the actor is capable of making the tritest dialogue sound wonderfully witty, but the CGI effects are amazing and, despite its length, the film is very enjoyable.

Seems like a miracle that something like this could be pulled off, fully amplifying and improving upon everything each solo MCU movie accomplished before it, while also standing on its own with the team dynamics.

At the time this was the biggest thing we’ve really ever seen from a superhero movie and the buildup was real, however small it may seem today. Upon rewatch, one of the first things I noticed was how the characters were balanced really well. I felt like they all had their setups into the plot, real purpose and a solid moment or two to shine. The comedy was also not as bad as it would get in later films. The one-liners were restrained, especially compared to Age of Ultron. The cast is solid and I thought the recast of Hulk with Mark Ruffalo was the right move and made for better chemistry amongst the cast. This last watch I also noticed we spend a lot of time on the S.H.I.E.L.D. helipad. These scenes are fine and actually contain a mix of both action, slow moments and plot exposition. I’d imagine this decision to stay here had something to do with saving the budget for the ending. Speaking of which, this has a classic “laser in the sky ending”.
