Peter W @RT12077588 Oct 23, 2026 As huge fan of all three Max Payne games, I was extremely disappointed when I first saw this on the big screen, and after a rewatch, my feelings haven’t changed. The tone of the film is actually one of its strengths. It leans into a dark, Sin City-like atmosphere, drenched in stylized noir visuals as a lone cop hunt for revenge after the murder of his family. Unfortunately, that’s where most of the praise ends. Aside from a couple of briefs, serviceable action sequences that honors the game, the film mostly drifts along with a predictable story and a brooding Mark Wahlberg while everyone around him either praises him a cop or fears him as a human weapon, without much depth or engagement. The casting is particularly baffling, and arguably one of the weakest aspects of any video game adaptation. It’s evident that Mark Wahlberg lacks connection to the character is obvious in his performance, which feels detached and uninspired. See more Frans B @FransB Aug 21, 2026 Good movie. Why in the hootenanny is everybody comparing it to the game? Sh#theads, I guess? It's a MOVIE people. And as a movie, it is not at all so pathetic as made out to be. Good writing and well directed. Stellar cast, with majority quite convincing. Marky Mark shines, as always and also brings the swagger, the other big names sure do not disappoint. Lots of action, mystery, twists, suspense, anticipation, drama, quiet and dark at times, emotion, intrigue and suspense. All creates the perfect relative ambiance. Entertaining and captivating, will keep you guessing for some time See more Ian R @RT23899272 Jan 20, 2026 I'd rather watch someone else play the video game than this poor attempt at transferring it to film. See more Alexander S @RT61935749 Jul 9, 2025 Max Payne suffered from poor direction, resulting in laughable acting and a narrative structure thatwas also convoluted, despite the decent cinematography. However, these shortcomings were compounded by the miscasting of Mark Wahlberg, who failed to embody the essence and presence of Max Payne as depicted in the games.
