As the rock band Metallica performs a roaring set for fans in a sold-out arena, a young roadie named Trip (Dane DeHaan) is sent on a mission to meet a disabled truck and retrieve a particular item. However, the routine task turns into a surreal odyssey when Trip's van is hit by another vehicle, and he finds himself up against a death-dealing horseman. As Trip flees through desolate streets, he has only his wits to help him avoid the deadly equestrian and deliver Metallica's cargo.

Critics Consensus

Imaginatively shot and edited, Metallica Through the Never is an electrifying, immersive concert film, though its fictional sequences are slightly less assured.

If Through the Never's attempts at creating a story-and-performance hybrid are only partially successful...its concert footage remains its prime selling point and strength.

A terrific concert film that's often hampered by interludes with Dane DeHaan.

The sound is stellar and Antal's cinematography gives the audience the ultimate you-are-there experience but in the end the narrative gets in the way of the stage presentation.

Works best as a Metallica concert film, less so as a dystopian nightmare where Metallica fans battle cops and horse demons in the streets.

Yeah I thought it was great but I really don't see the reason to have the side story. It makes no sense. But it's ok. It's a Metallica concert-- it's gonna be good. I'm glad I got to see this one.

Metallica Through the Never is a great one to watch because it delivers a concert-film experience that feels loud, immersive, and exciting from start to finish. It captures the power of Metallica’s performance in a way that really pulls you in, while also giving the whole movie a visual style that makes it stand out. Even if you are just there for the music, it keeps the energy high and never feels dull. What makes it work so well is how it blends atmosphere, intensity, and pure performance into something that feels bigger than a standard live release. It is a strong showcase for the band and a memorable watch overall. For me, it is an easy 8/10.

Thoroughly enjoying concert film with a wild Mad Max type storyline running through it. The music is amazing and will give any metal fan chills multiple times throughout.

I enjoyed the film back in the days. It was viewed only during night, last slot for the movie cieters. I was a student and have to return back to the dorm hell knows how (it was way too late for the public transport). But I can't forget the live concert feeling for only a cost of a local movie thieter ticket. The film itself is so-so technically, multichannel sound mix is also not quite different from a stereo, computer effects are noticeably low resolution. Though, they get the grip on a live concert feeling which holds you throughout the movie. And rocking chears in the theater, never thought they can do that, but chairs were rocking in rythm till the wery end. It's a pitty for me it's not a commercial success, but I definitely recommend this film for all who appreciate a good live rock concert.

I'm not one for musicals but love concert films! This movie is fantastic especially with my little army of metal head kids that cant go to a live show yet.
