An endearing and offbeat take on the teenage coming-of-age film.

The film’s movie-referencing, self-aware sheen betrays a heartfelt core that makes it an instant classic about the travails of youth.

We care about and root for these teens, as they do for each other. Their diverse backgrounds offer fodder in the script, from writers Shea Serrano and Jason Concepcion, for some cleverly funny heckling among local teens.

Likeable but a little unsettling...its pizzazz and engaging young leads can’t entirely conceal that the movie conveys some mixed messages it never manages to sort out.

Frequently entertaining thanks to the efforts of the teenage cast to act like teenagers, complete with banter and silly antics.

This is like an edgy after-school special and so refreshing! Such a nice break from movies that constantly sexualize teens...it's not earth-breaking territory, not cerebral academia, and there is no huge underlying theme. It's just about a quirky group of teens doing silly teenage things while one teen struggles with impending change. As an adult, I absolutely enjoyed it. Definitely something to watch on a lazy Saturday afternoon.
