In the end "Miss Kiet's Children" offers hope and promise. After all, if these kids can thrive, all kids should be able to.

Much like a day at elementary school, this vrit wonder called Miss Kiet's Children is exhausting, heartening, raucous, tender, occasionally dull, sometimes tearful, and ultimately a vital public good.

"Miss Kiet's Children" is a pointedly political (if overly precious) documentary set entirely at a Dutch primary school.

Quiet and cute, but big hearted and bold in its serene handling of the immigrant experience, Miss Kiet's Children may have been my personal favorite.

Miss Kiet's Children is far more than an extraordinary feat in documentary filmmaking - it's uncontaminated observation. [Full Review in Spanish]

Miss Kiet's Children is a genuine film, the kind that is hard to come by. At the end of the movie, you know these children, and you cannot help but remember that one teacher you had yourself.

Reminiscent of Michael Apted's "7 Up" series, a quietly sensitive documentary without a narrative line except to follow a school year in a Dutch mixed-age classroom of refugee children. As in the Apted series, the children's personalities emerge through their own actions and words as they meet the challenges of new language, cultural assimilation, and the simple discipline of daily school attendance.

If you want to learn how to teach watch 'Miss Kiet's Children'. Kiet Engels is a teacher in a Dutch school educating refugees from various countries. Often there is a language barrier and through patience and understanding Kiet gets through to the kids. The camera is at the kids height which puts the viewer in their shoes which was a nice touch. As for the film, it does drag at times, but there isn't a moment that a good teacher wouldn't find fascinating. The human element is at full force. This could be any classroom anywhere. Final Score: 7.8/10
