Bill has always lived in the shadow of his overachieving brother Robbie, an arrogant athlete and local celebrity who happens to be blind. Is it just me, or does the blind brother come across a little bit as a narcissistic asshole? There are a couple of things in the movie I would imagine could be objectionable, such as having an actor with normal eyesight portray a blind person, or the fact that the aforementioned blind character cannot perform any physically demanding activities without heavily relying on someone who can see. Besides these few objections, I actually enjoyed the movie more than I would have imagined before sitting down to watch it.

Good watch, could watch again, and can recommend. Nick Krull, Adam Scott, and Jenny Slate carry this well together and are pretty funny. I'm torn on whether or not Scott's portrayal of a blind person is complimentary or insulting, but I'll have to wait until a blind person sees it to hear what they say. The "best friend's girl" trope is fun, and they definitely make this movie special, even for "blind movies", the idea of him being an over-achieving athlete is very unique. As funny as this movie can be, as much as a "romance" movie as this is, it is definitely a "bromance" movie first.

Fueled by its strong cast, My Blind Brother is perfectly enjoyable dramedy that seemingly doesn't have a lot to say...but maybe that's the point. Family and interpersonal drama isn't exclusive to "normal" families and "normal" people. My Blind Brother doesn't try to emphasize Adam Scott's character's disability to teach lessons (albeit on a couple occasions) but is simply a part of the narrative. Each of its main characters are funny, enjoyable to watch, and endearing. You'll see better dramedies, but this is a good one.
