Somewhere in South America, May 1960, just after Israel's abduction of Adolf Eichmann in Argentina. Polsky, a lonely and grumpy Holocaust survivor, lives in the remote countryside. He spends his days playing chess and tending his beloved rosebushes. One day, when a mysterious old German man moves in next-door, he suspects that his new neighbor is... Adolf Hitler. Since nobody believes him, he embarks on a detective mission to find the evidence. But, in order to gather evidence, he will need to be closer to his neighbor than he would like. So close that the two could almost become friends.

It’s still sometimes nice to be reminded of how much value a talented ham like Kier can be, like when he wiggles his shoulders as Herzog teases Polsky about Kastenbrunner’s sex appeal. ... the rest of the joke could stand a little workshopping. Go to Full Review

The film at once wrings this premise for whimsical absurdism and slow-burn suspense, on each side vulgarizing the memory of the Holocaust. Go to Full Review

The highly uneven film awkwardly tries to layer its broad caper comedy with sentiment, without sufficient emotional depth. Go to Full Review

Both actors do their best to keep the story on track, but a Grumpy Old Men quality seems misplaced, and the screenplay becomes increasingly implausible. Go to Full Review

jesse v Jan 14, 2026 This could have been a 48 minute animated special instead, with more characters and more world building. Why even pick Spain of all places? See more

James Apr 7, 2026 it is a great movie, I dont get why people specially so called critics with those "make non-sense words" hate it. To jesse v, what's wrong with Spain? One of the most beautiful countries in the world? Why did you say "Why even pick Spain of all places?" what did you mean by that? are you a racist? or someone who had a bad experience in Spain and this movie is paying for it? See more

Luiz S @LUIZSAN Jan 22, 2026 Excelente filme. Vale a pena ver. See more
