See more Kevin P @RT55971421 Jan 14 A quirky and cute funny slice of life family movie based on a popular Japanese comic strip Manga. I like the cute comic strip art style, and I love the scenes where they shift the animation style. The Yamada family are all very likable and relatable, and their dynamics are very funny. I love the cute little daughter, though I wish she was in it longer. I like the little speech about parenthood and I laughed hard at the son's inheritance punchline. The movie's plot is a series of vignettes, similar to a comic strip with a clear set-up and punchline formula. This gives the movie a funny laid-back vibe, which works well, even if the longer runtime stretches the a premise a little thin by the end with the mostly white background. The TV remote battle and losing the daughter at the mall were probably my favorite skits. The voice acting and narration is very funny. I love the relaxing theme song. Easily Studio Ghibli's most laid-back and comedic movies. Very underrated in my book. The film showcases several cutesy short stories (of the Yamada family) that contribute to no story building, making it feel like a Sunday comic strip in the variety section. The story itself is pretty boring and slice of life, however, there were definitely some comedic moments. I will say it is very relatable even across cultures, and the dialogue isn't too bad. Overall, though for a movie, it just felt very mid and probably not worth watching.
