Dave Jul 19 A gritty, bleak, and compelling drama with moments of surreal humour. I don't know how authentic it is as I wasn't born in the time where the action is set but I was entertained. The acting is brilliant though the story is at times confusing and meanders on for a bit too long towards the end. The accents are very thick so if you don't understand Scots dialect you may struggle to follow the dialogue. It's very violent in parts so if you don't like that then maybe it's not for you. I personally liked the main character and was very moved by several of the performances. The cameo by the director as the main character's father is extremely haunting. The surreal ending is a bit like Marmite; you will either love it or hate it, and it can be interpreted in different ways. You will have to have an open mind to truly appreciate this challenging film. I've watched it several times and I get something different out of it each time. See more 05/23/2020 I like foreign films. Would rather have subtitles than voice over dubbing. But I always find it amusing when English language films have to provide subtitles. Have your dictionary app handy cuz the Scott's speak English but it is a different language. Very intense film tho.
