Mladen J @RT55178614 5 days ago Watched it in cinema - beautiful movie about post birth mental health struggles. Very under-rated, and overall beautiful and scary. See more Hugo S @Hugo_Shudder Oct 16, 2026 After moving to a remote house deep within an ominous forest, a couple gives birth to a newborn with unusual traits: body hair, an aversion to sunlight, and an appetite for blood. As the baby exhibits inhuman and bizarre behaviour, the mother develops a horrifying repulsion towards her own child. The couple’s relationship becomes increasingly dysfunctional, while an evil bond develops between the baby and the surrounding nature. "Nightborn" is a body horror film wrapped in folklore and superstition, using these elements to externalise the anxieties and fears associated with motherhood. The narrative tackles the forbidden emotions associated with a mother’s love for her first child, particularly when these emotions are considered unnatural and taboo. Motherhood is represented as an all-consuming role that often suppresses women’s autonomy beyond their maternal duties — a nightmare that worsens when parents are confronted with unmet expectations surrounding the ideal child. Saga is undiagnosed and her high functioning mask is broken down through her panic over her atypical offspring. When she can’t handle that her baby doesn’t keep up with appearances, her mother and sister point out that he is exactly like her. See more Kris T @RT26407207 Sep 25, 2026 Surprisingly I did enjoy the movie. I guess some of Finnish folklore and the language just added to it. It gives a vibe of Rosemary's baby as we dont see fully the baby until the very end, but with a bit less of elegance of this classic. What really put me off was the ending scene with trees growing through the house. Such poor CGIs that I'd rewritten the entire scene to go with something more natural and easy to make. See more Audrey S @Audrey1961 Sep 23, 2026 The movie had so much potential. But the way they portrayed the mother totally spoiled it for me. She didn't tell anyone, including her doctor, about how the baby wouldn't eat anything but blood, what happens when she tried to breastfeed, or even take it to the doctor when it had a bad burn. And nothing was ever said in the film by anyone about the baby's voice - he never cried like a baby. He sounded like an animal from day one. Either make the movie realistic or make it a fantasy. For me, it doesn't work like it is. See more Horror fan 4 @Horrorfan4life Sep 17, 2026 Well this was a twisted little film about a Finnish home and Forrest that seems to be haunted? Nevertheless Rupert Grint is back!!!! It's been awhile since I seen him in a movie.. Jon and saga movie to a Finnish Forrest and are eager to start a big family. This baby is evil and I'm here for it. The ending was crazy good. Tim Treakle See more Read all reviews
