Critics Consensus

It benefits from the presence of Natalie Portman and director Ivan Reitman's steady hand, but No Strings Attached doesn't have the courage or conviction to follow through on its ribald premise.

No Strings Attached energizes the tired romantic comedy genre by combining a pair of comely lovers and lines which leap and fizz, except when they have to fight mushy dips.

This being a Hollywood romantic comedy, the outcome of the story-about a man and woman who agree to a sex-only relationship-is obvious from the get-go, so this film is all about the journey, not the destination...

Ivan Reitman is one of the best comedy filmmakers of his generation--especially his 1980s output--but No Strings Attached is not one of his better films.

An average raunchy sex comedy, lacking likeable characters, plausibility, and general funniness.

A romantic comedy that reflects on the idea that sex can be something purely physical. It lacks great depth (though that isn’t its intention), and suffers slightly from a lack of chemistry between the actors, but it’s a good film for a Sunday afternoon on the couch.

Portman and Kutcher are good together - but the backwards falling in love story is boring. Can't decide whether it wanted to be bad or good.

Prep for goofiness, brain off, enjoy the ride - went in blank, came out happy for the couple with the flow!

I really enjoyed this one Ashton Kucher and Natalie Portman had great chemistry together. There were quite a few funny lines and moments. Kevin Kline was excellent as usual. The ending was great and the little vignettes were a nice touch. It's definitely worth the watch.
