A successful Los Angeles art-gallery owner's idyllic life is marred by the constant traveling of her handsome second husband. While he is away, she is shaken by the arrival of a manuscript written by her first husband, who she has not seen in years. The manuscript tells the story of a teacher who finds a trip with his family turning into a nightmare. As Susan reads the book, it forces her to examine her past and confront some dark truths.

A film that isn't nearly as smart as it thinks it is. The critics really love the atmosphere and style, but it seems to come at the cost of substance. The film is basically a neat little trick, but the sort where you can see just how it's done

The perfect definition of metafiction, absurd Jake Gyllenhaal chilling interpretation, and an absurd plot that reconnects in a single logical thread is absurd, perfect ending and excellent directing work to diversify the present part with the impersonification and of the novel and past scenes

Great thriller movie. Really keeps you tensed up with keeping you into the story lines. The ending really ties everything together beautifully and has a strong message to Susan, and in my opinion was the perfect ending. Although I was not ready for it to end!

Fairly decent movie, Jake gyllenhaal and Amy Adams were exceptional in this movie. I feel the script written by Jake's character was more compelling than the story. They should have just made the entire movie about the script in the movie and I assure you they'll be getting many awards. The script was just magnificent beside the script scenes I was just skipping because I didnt really care about what was going on aside the script
