A political and spiritual parable, but related with such subtle realism and incantatory rhythms that it is far more mysterious than didactic. Go to Full Review

Through a slow pace and a hypnotic visual style, Diaz creates a poignant tragedy that explores the systematic oppression and the irrationality of violence within the cracks of postcolonial Filipino society. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

Norte is extremely watchable, and there’s the rub: it’s reasonable to expect transcendence at that sustained length, but instead we get a relatively straightforward tract on political abuses... Go to Full Review

Scott R @ScottR 2 days ago NYT 1000 films. The slowness of the movie and the length were its biggest obstacle. I enjoyed revisiting the themes of Crime and Punishment from a Philippino perspective. The poverty and classes shown were informative. Saw on Kanopy. See more Joel P @autumn1015 Apr 14, 2020 I would have given this movie 3 or 4 stars had there been an ending tying up some of the loose ends. But, no, we get the European Art-House non-ending. Overlong and utterly pretentious. Gritty, but bleak. If you like long, drawn out scenes where nothing happens, see this movie. See more katherine m @eidolonmd Jan 19, 2020 Powerful, visually rich, thought-provoking, brutal, and gut-wrenchingly, chest-achingly visceral See more Nov 8, 2017 La mejor película que he visto en los últimos 5 años.
