Critics Consensus

Even with the force of a "classic" behind it, remake fever can't hold up the hollowness of this style-drenched Omen.

The film doesn't leave you with bad dreams. It just makes you wonder: what's the point watching this remake when DVDs of the original are at hand?

A disastrously miscast remake of the 1976 horror classic, which retains the apocalyptic themes of David Seltzer's original script but renders them dull and fright-free.

When it comes to The Omen, it feels as though more entertainment is to be had, rather than horror, yet finds its own layer of terror that extends beyond religion.

"The Omen" was ridiculous in 1976 and it’s ridiculous now.

Director John Moore is very respectful to the original, with almost a shot-for-shot re-creation in this version. While I'll admit the film is well made, it lacks the tension and sense of doom that made the original work.

I thought this was a refreshing update to a timeless classic. The acting was genuinely great. Especially when the cast was mainly from rom coms and action movies, and dramas. And yes, its pretty much the exact same story as the original but that's to be expected going in from the get go. If you like horror, science fiction, and drama then you will enjoy this flick. If you are looking for a bloody slasher film like Scream you will be disappointed. I love Horror and Sci fi so naturally I seen the movie and was delighted. Hopefully they continue refreshing the franchise with a bigger budget to make it a longer movie next time.

This is the baddest remake of old movie I've ever seen so far. The original Omen from 1976 was so good, I've watched it with so much hype. Lack of adequate acting and script also is in this one. But what makes it even worse is that it somehow manages to fall below even Omen III: The Final Conflict and Omen IV: The Awakening, both of which were already disappointing. At least those tried to bring something original to the table, no matter how flawed. This 2006 version is a lifeless, uninspired copy-paste with no tension, no atmosphere, and no real understanding of what made the original terrifying. It's a hollow echo of a horror classic, devoid of soul, dread, or purpose.
