"Outcome" is a dark comedy that centers on Reef Hawk (Keanu Reeves), a beloved Hollywood star who must dive into the depths of his hidden demons after he is extorted with a mysterious video that's sure to shatter his image and end his career. With the support of his lifelong besties Kyle (Cameron Diaz) and Xander (Matt Bomer), along with his crisis lawyer Ira (Jonah Hill), Reef embarks on a soul-searching journey to make amends with anyone he could have possibly wronged in hopes of identifying the blackmailer. Co-writer and director Hill brings a unique lens to Reef's wild but spiritually cleansing, nostalgic and eye-opening trip down memory lane, where confronting his past might be the only way to rescue his future.

Critics Consensus

Outcome collapses under its own ambitions, playing as a garish, tonally erratic and heavy-handed satire that fumbles its intriguing ideas about stardom in an overlong and largely unfunny jumble of wasted talent.

With Hill as Reef’s abrasive lawyer, the film veers between crude and cuddly. Watch it for Reeves’ heartfelt reaction shots and Martin Scorsese’s small but perfectly played role. Go to Full Review

Ultimately Outcome needed a more refined, truthful director. Go to Full Review

It’s hard to imagine this mumbling, shambling man holding multiplex masses in his thrall. As such, he’s a poignant void, but a void nonetheless, and even at a slim 84 minutes, Hill’s doleful film can’t keep us interested in his plight. Go to Full Review

One wonders if Hill the director shouldn’t have reined in Hill the character actor a touch more, in order to give Outcome a more consistent tone. Go to Full Review

A muddled, self-indulgent satire that never finds its bite, Outcome wastes its cast and ideas in a dull, aimless story that feels far longer than it is. Go to Full Review

Liz H @RT37397347 9h I’m so glad I did not skip this movie because of the reviews I loved it. Watching the characters felt like watching somebody waking up. A lot of the dialogue and the scenes felt like real life conversations rather than watching a movie script. I love that Jonah Hill was willing to play almost a caricature of his character to show the part he played in Keanu Reeves life up until the point Keanu Reeves character begins to realize that Jonah, along with other people in his life, was an actual human being with concerns, loves and losses as big as his own. Watching Keanu Reeves character wake up from a lifetime of being the center of his own universe, and gradually realize that there are other people with lives and feelings populating the world was like watching a totally realistic heroes journey unfold. I definitely recommend this movie and will watch it again myself. Can’t believe with this start-studded cast, the best acting is from Martin Scorsese. See more Rob M @RT32322392 2d I couldn’t make it past 20minutes… Reeves was excellent and his lines were great… Sadly Jonah Hill (who is a great actor) and the rest of the cast had terrible lines filled with lowbrow humour that made it cringy. It’s as though they had one writer for Reeves and another group for the rest. Sad to say it was one of the worst films I’ve tried to watch, which is too bad as the premise was full of potential. See more Daryl D @DmacVisuals 3d Grading mode: Sunset See more Tanya H @RT25399397 6d I don’t understand why it’s being so heavily criticised. I loved every part of Outcome and watched it around 10 times over converting family and friends as fans of Jonah’s brilliant mind. From casting to satirical view of apologising, classic quotes "check the Saudi money" this movie hits all my happy spots. I sincerely hope that due to others not sharing the fondness for Jonah’s magical movie mind it doesn’t discourage more original movies idea of his made into reality. I 🩷 Jonah Hill movies 🍿 Don’t change anything! See more Read all reviews
