Jake Pentecost is a once-promising Jaeger pilot whose legendary father gave his life to secure humanity's victory against the monstrous Kaiju. I'm not sure even fans will find this industrial-strength head-banger entertaining. The best thing is that Pacific Rim: Uprising is under two hours though I have to warn you - it feels much longer.

Don’t get me wrong, if you’re here mainly to watch robots faceoff against monsters, you’ll likely leave fairly satisfied. Pacific Rim Uprising disappointingly settles for simply being passable.

Rating: 5.5/10 ⭐️ I was honestly just craving some flashy robot-on-monster action for the weekend. I like this as a loud popcorn flick, even if it trades the magic of the first one for breezy action. What Worked: • I really dug John Boyega’s fun energy; his vibe totally carries the movie. • The daytime Jaeger battles look sleek and bring a vibrant flavor. • Loved the homemade Scrapper mech and the underdog spirit Cailee Spaeny brings. The Friction: • The rogue robot mystery part really dragged for me when I just wanted to see more Kaijus. • The squeaky-clean style honestly felt a bit too polished compared to the lived-in vibe of the original. Verdict: Watch for a breezy robot ride. Pass if you need the deep atmospheric weight of the original.

5.4/10 Yeah, this movie does not age well at all. Thanks to a script that raises more questions due to plot holes and questionable lore/world building, to killing off loved characters or mistreating them in numerous of different ways in favor of bland, boring characters and action sequences that don't pop off until the 3rd act, this one just struggles. The movie is very visually pleasing but it lacks the grit and (grime?) of the original's aesthetics.
