Keri W 1d I first saw this classic in a film as a narrative art class in college. Hadn't seen it for almost 50 years. The scenes on the train are phenomenal (despite the cringe-worthy racial depictions of the bartender and porter) because William Demarest and his buddies remind me of a posse of clueless old guys on their way to a Trump Rally--only these guys are friendly. Colbert and McRae make a delifghtful pair--but Rudee Vallée and Mary Astor get all the best lines--well, aside from the "Wiener King." It's a fun diversion from the world we're living in right now. The old man who mishears things made me laugh and some of the situations were a bit unlikely but amusing never the less. Its pretty basic comedy I suppose but I thought at times it was relatively entertaining. Its not a greatly memorable film. It is, of course, somewhat dated, having been released in 1942. There are some outdated sexist comments, cheesy foreign accents and perhaps racial stereotypes present. This is an ok watch but nothing more, it becoming a little bland and dialogue heavy shortly before an hour in and I was pretty distracted by the end.
