What to Know

Critics Consensus

Passengers proves Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence work well together -- and that even their chemistry isn't enough to overcome a fatally flawed story.

Passengers takes what could have been an interesting debate about consent and glosses it over with cheesy romance and problematic sex. Go to Full Review

Its science-fiction premise about lovers in space starts with promising questions, but soon approaches a horizon that lacks depth and is lost, from the beginning, in a black hole of clichés. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

Abed D @Abeddani 38m Masterpiece of an idea Artwork of performance See more JW L @eurogolfer 17h Some movies stay with you. This is one of them. First of all, I found the CGI and graphics of the space ship almost flawless. Second, I think this movie is quite deep, and asks some important philosophical questions about the meaning and purpose of life and the desire we all have for connections with one another and the lengths we will go to find these human companionships when absent. So, it is a movie very much like Castaway in this regard. Both movies are not about space travel or a desert island; they are really more about the human spirit when left alone for too long. So, my hat is off to the writers and directors for achieving this angsty element. The acting is fine, and it only occurred to me AFTER watching the movie that there really only two actors, making Pratt and Lawrence’s acting all the more impressive as they are asked to hold the entire script together for the entire movie. Highly Recommend if you are a sci-fi fan. See more Geo3 F @RT82897544 1d This is a surprising good movie that I enjoy, its a space drama that is driven by decisions some emotional others not so much. Both Pratt and Lawrence did a good job portraying the emotions of said characters. I dont know why some people did not like it but I really enjoy it. See more Ryan R @RT03720025 6d When you watch this film. You will think (or I do) I'm the only one watching this film. Plus it makes you think. How many years of food do they have left? See more t f @Funky9 Feb 15 Absolutely beautiful movie. The Story aint flat at all as some said , matter of fact its one of the best screen plays i could think of, like a beautiful deep novell. covers the deepest human desires and needs. And actually is different from all the crap that is shown in the other movies nowadays. Different to the ever same stories. Deep emotions and intense chemistry between the actors, who are playing amazing. And take you into their journey through outer space like its a dream See more v o @MoviePhan Feb 3 Thought provoking, as many questioning Jim's decision indicates. What's a great movie for if not that! Pratt is perfect as suffering and conflicted Jim. He takes responsibility, offers his life to both Aurora and the ship to save 5,000+ lives and pay for his "sins." He is relatable and understandable. Lawrence is ideal as Aurora who comes to know if Jim had not woken her up (or at least someone, but why not one he wants to be with) they all would have died! And he gives her the option to go back to sleep-the decision was hers. Gus/Fishbourne is a salvific figure who helps resolve their conflict, tells them to "take care of each other," and gives them his bracelet to fix their dilemma. He is a moving character as well. Sheen/Arthur the Robodroid perfectly dispenses bartenderly wisdom that gets Jim and Aurora through. Forgiveness and understanding are the key. Would love sequel to learn how they survive and have child/children they put in autodoc to survive trip to Homestead II. See more Read all reviews
