Joel H @786Joel 11/05/2023 Pharaoh's Curse isn't one of the mainstream mummy movies out there, but it still has a few treasures to offer the viewer. Even though it's barely over an hour long and there isn't a traditional wrapped-up mummy wandering around, it still features more scares than most of the Universal Studios mummy flicks. Also, Ziva Rodann is oddly mesmerizing whenever she is on the screen. And most mind-blowingly of all, Pharaoh's Curse was reportedly shot in only six days, and on a shoestring budget, too. Which actually makes this movie even more impressive, considering it may be better than the big-budget ones. See more 09/23/2013 Actually a lot better than I thought it would have been. The dialog helped this since its a 1950s B-movie horror (not my favorite era for horror films). A married couple is exploring in Egypt for ancient treasure and the hotty asks for a divorce, much to the husband's chagrin. A curse is released. Do I repeat myself? Some decent effects for it being a cheapie and the Egyptian cat woman is pretty hot. See more 04/08/2013 Pharaoh's Curse (Lee Sholem, 1957) Pharaoh's Curse, a barely-feature-length attempt at horror from the late fifties (two decades earlier and we'd be referring to it as a two-reeler), can have the word "barely" attached to many aspects of it. Barely coherent. Barely competent. Barely acted (at all, much less well-). Barely watchable. The list goes on. There's a plot, which you've heard about a thousand times before (and it gets thinner every time): a group of Egyptologists, with assorted military personnel, open the tomb of an Egyptian pharaoh (that somehow seems to be in the jungle-I didn't think they had many of those in Egypt), and a curse visits one of the scientists, gradually turning him into a mummy. Not that you'll care, assuming you even remember the movie, apart from a mildly clever twist at the end, more than five minutes after you've shut it off. It has no real distinguishing features that would make it stick in your mind; the direction is barely there, the actors are listless at best, the cinematography is lackadaisical. There may be a reason to watch this, but I can't off the top of my head think what it would be. * See more 12/05/2012 A nice little short story gem. See more 06/04/2011 I watched this one on Netflix Instant Watch over the internet. Doesn't seem to be a copy out in DVD yet, but you might have better luck finding it then I did. Not even sure why it was on my watch list. It is a short film of 66 minutes. About a husband who is out on a search in Egypt for a tomb of a mummy, his wife hires a guide to help find him, upon finding him she tells him she wants a divorce and of course has fallen in love wit the guide, mean while they run into in the middle of the desert a Egyptian girl who is trying to locate and save her brother before its to late. To late for what?????? Watch the film as before they get to base camp the tomb of the mummy is opened and he's not to happy about that. Alright Special effects, outstanding for 1957.
