The discovery of a clue to mankind's origins on Earth leads a team of explorers to the darkest parts of the universe. Two brilliant young scientists lead the expedition. Shaw hopes that they will meet a race of benevolent, godlike beings who will in some way verify her religious beliefs, while Holloway is out to debunk any spiritual notions. Even if the movie's logic ultimately spirals down into a vortex of hysteria, horror and hokum, I enjoyed the bulldozer intensity of the climax, which barely keeps a lid on the crackpot cult movie that's wrestling for the soul of this... blockbuster.

Yeah, I love the film. It’s a big budget version of a stupid 80s alien-rip-off. That’s how I view it. It’s not canon, obviously. It’s a rip-off film like Galaxy of Terror but made by an immensely talented filmmaker (not storyteller).

The aim of the film was to explain the origins of Alien from scratch. In Ridley Scott’s hands, the plot naturally retains the unsettling atmosphere of the 1979 film. Its only flaw—which isn’t particularly serious—is that it leaves some questions unanswered.

The movie was overall good. But that one scene: "But how do you know? I don't. But it's what I choose to believe". I guess a desperate billionaire who wants to live forever will fall for any silly story, but I wanted to hear that story. Every crazy conspiracy theory has its story of why it might be true, but here, they did not bother to give it to us.

As someone who has never seen any of the other Alien films, this was a fantastic introduction. I know I should have watched the OG’s before this, but something about watching a story in the order of its in universe timeline is so satisfying to me. The performances in this movie are awesome. Everyone does such an amazing job. Michael Fassbender pulled the soulless, emotionless robot performance off remarkably. The makeup on Guy Pearce’s character, Weyland was outstanding. I had to look up the cast of the movie to figure out who he was. The pacing was incredible. For a movie that’s just a little over 2 hours, this felt like 45 mins to an hour. I was so locked in on this incredibly compelling story that I was surprised when the ending came so quickly. Overall, fantastic movie. Great introduction to someone who has never seen any other movie in this franchise, and made me excited to see more.
