Critics Consensus

The Rescuers Down Under achieves moments of genuine wonder while adding Outback flavor to its charmingly modest story, making for a sequel that outdoes the original.

With its exhilarating action sequences, Walt Disney Pictures' The Rescuers Down Under challenges the adventure films of Spielberg and Lucas and confirms the special power of animation to present extravagant fantasies on screen.

The storyline for the 29th full-length animated feature from Walt Disney Pictures is nothing spectacular, but its depiction of the Australian outback is a visual treat.

It's a far better piece of animation than the dismal Oliver and Company of 1988 and last year's smartly conceived but indifferently executed Little Mermaid. Butoy and Gabriel obviously love their medium, the first Disney directors to do so in years.

Pack up your children, grandchildren, neighbor children. For heaven's sake, go alone. But definitely go to the newest Walt Disney Pictures animated feature, The Rescuers Down Under.

It has pushed the limits of visual style to something that approaches the splendor of Pinocchio. It may be the most beautiful animated film ever made in this country.

Rescuers down under is a great movie don’t judge it for what it is. Watch it and see for yourself and see what you think of the movie. It brings joy and happiness everything because it’s a movie that helps people but trying to save animals and show people that this one takes place in Australia and it might be a place that people wanna go visit instead of staying away from

All of these old school animation movies are just pretty fantastic. The work that it took artistically to make a movie like this is just amazing. This one is pretty good. A pretty good story and lots of great characters. I enjoyed it.

The Rescuers Down Under is a beautifully crafted Disney film that deserves far more recognition than it’s received. The story builds on the first film but delivers higher stakes, more adventure, and stronger character development. Jake, Wilbur, Bernard, Miss Bianca, and Cody are all fully realized, each with charm, humor, and heart, while the eagle sequence adds breathtaking thrills. The animation is vibrant, detailed, and shows a clear passion from the creators. The voice cast — Joanna, McLean, Frank, and others — brings the characters to life perfectly. The plot balances suspense, excitement, and emotional depth, making it engaging for both kids and adults. Compared to the original, the sequel feels more dynamic, adventurous, and satisfying, cementing itself as an underappreciated gem in Disney’s animated catalog.
