Critics Consensus

Ronin earns comparisons to The French Connection with strong action, dynamic road chase scenes, and solid performances.

It's like watching the revival of a forgotten art form; the fact that it's done with a minimum of special effects makes it all the more stirring.

A super slick thriller than deserves higher praise. A great director and stunning cast combine to deliver a fast paced thriller with twists, a car chase that Luc Besson would be proud of and a good atmospheric diversity. The setting is perfect and the dialogue has a good mix of tense and comedic delivery. The screenplay has one guessing the outcome until the end. De Niro and Reno are perfect, with great support from Skarsgard and a wonderful cameo from Bean. The critics and audiences loved it back in the day and as a thriller, it has it all.

I especially liked the chase scenes between the Citroën Xantia (with its active hydropneumatic suspension) and the Audi S8 (4.2L V8 Quattro, 340 hp).
