Critics Consensus

Despite some surprising twists, Scream 3 sees the franchise falling back on the same old horror formulas and cliches it once hacked and slashed with postmodern abandon.

A mainly by the numbers affair, enjoyable enough while it lasts, but instantly forgettable.

Scream 3 often feels like a spectre of slasher-movies past, but it features an engagingly prescient mystery about the dark side of Hollywood, and builds to an enjoyably tense climax in director Wes Craven's version of a haunted mansion.

Wes Craven seems to have lost the thread of what makes these movies so entertaining, merely hoping fans would appreciate getting another romp with beloved characters.

SCREAM 3’s flirtation with genuine subversion makes it one of the most interesting — and most frustrating — entries in the series. Considering the circumstances that influenced its production, it’s remarkable that it works at all.

I did chuckle a decent amount at this, especially with Parker Posey's performance. The main trio is completely checked out here and has never looked or acted worse.

this felt like the last movie of the scream franchise. i have the feeling it should have ended here. what i liked most about this one was the cast, and once again, the setting (we’re in hollywood now) which i think is the reason why this story doesn’t feel repetitive or just tiring by now. it was interesting, kept me wanting more, and just when i thought it had lost me, the killer is revealed and i’m back where i started. i feel like things till feel logical or make sense up until this point, so i’m still eager to see what happens next. i just hope they can give a rest to my girl sidney, courteney doesn’t have to wear those hideous micro bangs (that only she can rock btw) and somehow we can bring miss parker posey back from the death!!!

Wes Craven seems to like make his movies as meta as it can be, and that’s not the problem. Plain and simple the movie it’s boring and no one matters, at least the new ones.

More of the same. Although the characters seemed to be dumber than usual in this one. But nice to conclude the story behind the story.
