Critics Consensus

Shrek the Third has pop culture potshots galore, but at the expense of the heart, charm, and wit that made the first two Shreks classics.

The first two movies had heart, charm, wit, originality, parfait and, most unusually for an animation, characters you could properly care about. This, though, has very little of any of the above, and it breaks my heart. Go to Full Review

This is a very skillfully made corporate product, but I wonder who, exactly, will be fully satisfied. Go to Full Review

Both the donkey and the kitty have largely been neutered, and the film’s makers didn’t bother to introduce any compelling new characters to pick up the slack. Go to Full Review

A satisfying sequel that has its charm but isn't quite up to par with its predecessors. Go to Full Review

⭐ Nota final: 5 / 10 See more Jimena G @RT80855653 Apr 22 es ok, solo ok. See more av 8 @anagha.vinay Apr 17 My independent girlies! It feels like everyone got a whiff of Mulan. This is fantastic. I can't believe I'm rooting for the ugly step sister as well. The transition to parenthood is beautiful. It is the brilliant way every character gets their share of the spotlight that stuns me. The crisp humour, the depth, and the originality never fail to shine. The characters are so true to themselves across all the movies—my favourite part is Shrek's morbid humour. Just when I'm all emotional and teared up, they crack me up again. Since when did flatulence become a running joke? See more Benjamin W. @Code70 Apr 8 Maybe the most disappointing animated sequel ever made. Shrek the Third is, essentially, the Godfather: Part III of animated movies. This franchise had the opportunity to be one of the all-time great animated trilogies if this was on par with the first two. But instead, we got a dull, generically told, bizarrely uninspired threequel. Everything just feels so dashed off here, and it’s such a lazy continuation of its predecessors’ subversive narratives. It’s not the worst animated films ever made, but it’s got to be one of the most apathetic. See more Read all reviews
