Funny in a quirky character sort of way but also very heartwarming. Its got a sports theme but much deeper than that. Great family or date night movie. My wife was lukewarm going in - not into sports much - but loved it.

For the first 30 minutes, I honestly thought I was watching a faith-based film centered around a troubled protagonist navigating a career choice that stood in direct opposition to his convictions. If you’ve ever watched a movie that leaned into themes of Christianity and faith, you can see certain parallels in the way this film is shot. That’s not a critique of that particular genre, but rather a commentary on how Signing Tony Raymond doesn’t seem to know what kind of movie it’s supposed to be. The one commendable aspect of the movie is that although the scenes seem highly dramatized, the film does depict the harsh realities associated with college athletic recruitment. However, Signing Tony Raymond isn’t necessarily a bad film; it just could have been a lot better. For a movie based on the lengths schools will go to in order to sign a top prospect, it never seems to find its footing or provide the authentic representation this subject deserved.
