Critics Consensus

Snake Eyes has a number of ingredients that promise a trashy fun time; unfortunately, they're lost in an energetic and stylish thriller with a frustratingly hollow core.

Wispy threads of dramatic plausibility and character involvement unravel completely by the time of the incredibly silly final reel.

Never loses its bearings as it hovers between preposterous paranoia and a Billy-Wilder-like moral fable about a deeply flawed hero who draws a line in the sand beyond which he cannot go.

Die-hard De Palma fanatics will love it, but others may think it's over-directed and rather pointless.

"Snake Eyes" is so obsessed with unraveling its mystery and the purpose of its characters that it forgets to be entertaining.

Brian De Palma directs this triller with NC that is really good. Notably for the directors use of camera angles. In particular the opening shot that is amazing very enjoyable

The first 45 minutes I absolutely loved the middle provide an entertaining but predictable plot twist while the end was stereotypical and the weakest part of the film.

Hell yea. De Palma cooks here as much as humanly possible in a single location/night thriller.

I found myself watching this movie trying to find reasons to like it, and not finding any. But if you like noir and de Palma, then you might like this movie. You have to really really like Nicolas Cage to like the movie though.
