Critics Consensus

Though the concept is no longer fresh, Spy Kids 2 is still an agreeable and energetic romp.

Rodriguez seems to be trying too hard to cram in too much - more gadgets, more characters, more noise, more color. But bigger, brighter and faster isn't necessarily better.

It is a colourful, high-flying package that melds the gadget-happy sensibilities of its Mission: Impossible-spoofing predecessor with a parade of Hollywood in-jokes sure to amuse parents without confusing kids.

It's a spirited attempt to recapture the first film’s offbeat appeal, but the end result, while still enjoyable, is decidedly less satisfying.

... a high energy, high tech wish-fulfillment adventure that empowers its young audience. Rodriguez has the chops of a smart-aleck film school brat and the imagination of a big kid...

Little better, little worse, little deeper, little crazier than the first. All the same still applies here. Very solid kids action with wide appeal. Nostalgia BOMB for me personally.

As a kid, I didn't like this installment in the trilogy, but after I watched it again I really enjoyed it. It's still my least favorite of the trilogy and there is so much stuff going on that you forget about the plot.
