High above the little town of Grubbers Nubbin looms Castle Grotteskew. Here, in his haphazard laboratory, the maddest of all mad professors brings his latest monstrous creations to (almost)-life. Watching, hidden in the shadows, is the professor’s first, long-forgotten creation, Stitch Head. A tiny, strange-looking fellow made up of bits, pieces, and spare parts, he is quite a sight to behold, with his bald, round head covered in a patchwork of stitches, and mesmerizing eyes. Stitch Head splits his time between keeping the castle safe & the other monsters hidden. He is terrified that even the smallest sign of monstrousness will cause the townsfolk of Grubbers Nubbin to burn the castle to the ground. It is a job he undertakes with care & precision, until one day a tired-looking freak show comes to town; led by its desperate owner Fulbert Freakfinder. The show is in dire need of a new attraction and when Freakfinder meets humble Stitch Head, he knows he has found his star.

Critics Consensus

A daffy monster mash with a sweet lesson for children at its core, Stitch Head feels quilted from more inspired animated touchstones but retains a scrappy charm of its own.

Stitch Head feels like a tentative first step into a heavily crowded field, sutured together from ideas and images previously encountered in far more confident and accomplished entertainments.

What Stitch Head mostly aims for and generally achieves is a warmth of comedy and emotion that will sit well with young audiences.

This touching and somewhat grotesque story is the perfect gateway for younger kids to dabble in more spooky, Gothic content, as well as to take in the true lessons of Shelley’s original monster tale.

The film's community of grotesque characters is enjoyably bonkers, with exquisitely timed slapstick antics the order of the day.

When Stitch Head dares to sit still — when it contemplates how terrifying it is simply to be a child — it comes remarkably close to being a true classic.

Stitch Head, based on Guy Bass’ first book in the series, will charm the little monsters while being cute enough for the adults to watch in the background.

Surprisingly decent animated indie film with heart. It’s no Nightmare Before Christmas or even Hotel Transylvania, but it’s still worth watching on a discount or when it comes to Netflix.
