The plot is not a remake or rip off of any other movie. Maybe Travels with Charlie is closest to this movie as any other I can think of. Not really. Almost turned it off after the first 15 minutes but what I now realize was a planned sketchy start morphed into a unique low-key love story. No overacting here. Turns out the couple in the movie are actually husband and wife, Sam and Amber Jaeger. Sam wrote, directed and starred. Obviously low budget but doing well, as it should be, on Amazon Prime!
