In 2003, Harvard undergrad and computer genius Mark Zuckerberg (Jesse Eisenberg) begins work on a new concept that eventually turns into the global social network known as Facebook. Six years later, he is one of the youngest billionaires ever, but Zuckerberg finds that his unprecedented success leads to both personal and legal complications when he ends up on the receiving end of two lawsuits, one involving his former friend (Andrew Garfield). The Social Network is genuinely a great film. The story holds your attention from start to finish, and it’s far more intriguing than you’d expect from a movie about building a website. David Fincher does an incredible job exploring the psychological layers of the characters, revealing their motivations and conflicts through dialogue and actions. The film’s back-and-forth structure shifting between different timelines kind of gave me slight Oppenheimer and Memento vibes, though maybe that’s just me, haha! The cast is outstanding, each performance bringing a different shade of intensity and vulnerability. And the score? Perfect. It sets the mood in every scene and elevates the tension beautifully. Overall, it’s a solid film that captures the messy intersection of ambition, politics, and the corporate world.
