The Alabama Solution is really well made and honestly a very, very important piece of film. It’s also awful to watch—but not in a bad filmmaking way. It’s awful because the reality it shows inside American jails is so brutal that at times you forget you’re watching a documentary and not some dystopian fiction. Sadly, I’m not even surprised these things happened. My biggest issue is the length. For this kind of documentary it drags and the pacing slips, which dulls the emotional punch a bit. One of the tainted country’s most inhumane states are cruelly living in the past per its statewide tribalism with governmental and procedural oppressors enacting injustice on those they deems unfit to their society. This provocative documentary is a powerful smoking gun that exposes the continuously unjustified practices inflicting on those who seeks rightful rehabilitation then earned freedom, further complexing the stereotypical label that advocates in re-evaluating the prison system. At this point, it’s asking where we are now on this issue, and why are we still here? Out of the year’s insightfully thought-provoking documentaries echoing the widening issues we’re facing, this screams more urgently and ties next to the other investigative "Cover-Up".
