See more Vixo S @vixo_six Jul 27 The Fate of the Furious keeps turning former street racers into international agents without ever making that transformation believable. Dom’s role as an antagonist is predictable, and the explanation depends on another conveniently hidden plan that removes any real consequence from the betrayal. The remotely controlled cars provide one genuinely entertaining sequence, and the effects are more polished than before, but the submarine spectacle pushes the fantasy into complete nonsense. Characters also change sides whenever the story needs another familiar face. The film is not just unrealistic. It is empty, repetitive and exhausting, another reminder that "family" has become less of a theme than an excuse for every impossible decision. It gets way too corny, and cheesy, and cliche, and it is somehow still managing to be overrated by both critics and audiences. Again, it is a good movie. The action is still really good, the characters are still really good, and there is still some good things to say about it. However, the story is weak, quite a bit is unnecessary at best and nonsensical at worst, but there is nothing especially terrible by any means. Enjoyable. See more Chris S @Janomi Jun 17 The Fate of the Furious starts with an intriguing premise by forcing Dom to betray his family. While the storyline requires a significant amount of suspension of disbelief, it creates enough conflict to keep the story engaging. The larger-scale action continues to escalate, resulting in several entertaining set pieces. The film's biggest surprise is the Hobbs-Shaw dynamic. Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham have fantastic chemistry, and their constant bickering provides some of the movie's funniest moments. Charlize Theron also brings a different type of threat as Cipher, relying more on manipulation than physical intimidation. Not every plot development works, and the franchise continues drifting further from realism. Still, the action remains entertaining, the cast chemistry is strong, and the Hobbs-Shaw partnership steals nearly every scene they're in. See more Read all reviews
