The uneasy balance between these worlds is soon shattered when she witnesses the fatal shooting of her childhood best friend at the hands of a police officer. Critics Consensus

Led by a breakout turn from Amandla Stenberg, the hard-hitting The Hate U Give emphatically proves the YA genre has room for much more than magic and romance.

The Hate U Give isnt always an easy pill to swallow by design: Tillman and Wells want to start a conversation. They succeed in their intentions, creating one of the best films of the past decade, and a showcase for Stenberg. Go to Full Review

DARREN A C @RT66208181 2d This movie sucks in my opinion Starr whole plot is she's against racism but almost the whole movie she gives off a racist vibe and this film could of done better the cop didn't kill Khalil because he was black like the film tries to tell you but its night and there was a shooting nearby and you pulled someone over and they reach in their car it's most likely a gun and your not going to shoot for your safety. Terrible plot, terrible acting, whole movie is terrible DON'T WATCH THIS MOVIE IT IS A WASTE OF YOUR TIME See more Michael P @TheeMichael-jai Mar 13 Even with all the dated references, the story's impact is much stronger and harder to swallow. See more J K @RT17631092 Oct 29 Shockingly dated already. See more Irene G @RT20912583 Aug 29 Honestly.. The acting was horrific It felt like it was recorded by kid off a iphone 8. I love the book and the message it sent across but the movie doesn't at all come close. I understand that not every little thing can be fit into the movie but you could've at least made it seem like you were putting effort into it. Read the book. It's absolutely phenomenal. I cried multiple times while reading it. The best eye opener. I just feel like the movie could've been made and presented so much better. This movie could've been something so great, right now it's just seeming mediocre. If you want to watch a good movie around social injustice and discrimination, FRUITVALE STATION. 10X better then this "movie" will make you feel like you knew him in real life and like your actually walking through what he's going through. That's a movie that will truly allow you to see what's beyond just news titles and everything else on the surface. I want it to be noted that I have no hate towards the actors in this movie let alone Amandla Stenberg. She's great especially in some scenes but it just doesn't seem as raw as the book and they're literally playing in front of you on a screen. See more Kal C. @Kalclem50 Jul 6 Social conscious movie makes you really think , it’s a mirror of how injustice and still needs a fight for change for everyone have justice See more Read all reviews
