The world's top protection agent is called upon to guard the life of his mortal enemy, one of the world's most notorious hit men. The relentless bodyguard and manipulative assassin have been on the opposite end of the bullet for years and are thrown together for a wildly outrageous 24 hours. During their journey from England to The Hague, they encounter high-speed car chases, outlandish boat escapades and a merciless Eastern European dictator who is out for blood.

Critics Consensus

The Hitman's Bodyguard coasts on Samuel L. Jackson and Ryan Reynolds' banter -- but doesn't get enough mileage to power past an overabundance of action-comedy clichés.

It's a crassly violent comic book, an insane bit of violence and bloodshed overflowing in crude one-liners, car chases, explosions and random jolts of gunfire.

The Hitman's Bodyguard wasted its talented stars and served up a slop that is best watched on a long-haul flight, sandwiched between some non-Pixar animation and a weepy romance with a dying female lead.

Outwardly it's all as mindless as can be.

Weak characters, a thin plot, and a few funny moments lead to a bland but inoffensive film. As far as action comedies go, we've seen far better, and we've seen far worse. "The Hitman's Bodyguard" finds itself somewhere in the unremarkable middle.

Thanks to a sturdy control of tone and some deliciously wicked performances, it works like gangbusters despite its bare-bones plot and a weak villain.

A fun but silly buddy movie that squeezes in some philosophy and romance too...

Just the right mix of comedy and action with a [very] little romance tossed in. Of course the action is moderately unbelievable with the good guys never missing and the bad guys with full auto assault rifles just making lots of holes in cars while missing the occupants. But it's still fun.

Silly and Funny (12,639 – 22 Aug 2026) When his client is murdered by a sniper, Michael Bryce loses the triple A ranking. Two years later, the genocide Vladislav Dukhovich is in the court of Haia for his crimes, but the witnesses are murdered by his gang. The assassin Darius Kincaid is the last hope to sentence Dukhovich and the government makes a deal with him, promising to release his wife Sonia from the prison if he testifies. However, the Interpol agents that are protecting him are attacked and killed by Dukhovich’s mercenaries and only Amelia Roussel survives. She calls her former lover Bryce and promises his triple A back if he takes Kincaid to Haia in a dangerous journey. "The Hitman's Bodyguard" (2017) is a silly and funny action movie with Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson showing great chemistry. The plot is not original, but the direction is great, with many car chases, shootouts and action scenes. My vote is seven. Title (Brazil): "Dupla Explosiva" ("Explosive Duo")

Watched this and the Wife's sequel way too many times. My go to comfort action comedy. I don't get the bad reviews. It is well written, action packed, has romcom, some drama, buddy banter, good plot, and lots of entertaining action. I never get tired of it.

A stone age level plot carried entirely by pure chaos, slick action and the insane energy between the leads. Dumb? Maybe. Entertaining as hell? Absolutely. One of those perfect switch off your brain timepass watches.
