I think my favorite part of The Invitation is the discomfort that you feel in a party is so well intoned, and all of the acting matches so well with the characters and their desires/intentions. It feels real, and it feels upsetting, and I love it. Go to Full Review

There are no scenes, characters, or bits of dialogue that don’t belong. The tension builds and builds until we’re left with a masterful final shot that’s so subtle, but the implication is chilling. Go to Full Review

Winston D @WinstonDavenport 3 days ago 6/10. The Invitation does a great job making an ordinary dinner party feel uncomfortable. Logan Marshall-Green is good as a man who can't decide whether something is wrong or whether his own grief is affecting his judgment. I liked how much time the movie spends on awkward conversations and little changes in people's behavior. It's the kind of tension I enjoy because you can imagine yourself sitting at that table. My problem is that some of the characters' decisions don't make much sense once you think about them. There are also details introduced that seem important but never develop into much. I enjoyed watching it, although I expected a tighter script. See more Jennifer B @RT55532763 3 days ago Seth Rogan is so funny. feels like a remake of Who’s Afraid of Virginia Wolfe? See more Griffith J @griffithxjohnson 4 days ago Cerebral horror that blends a lot of subgenres into a wholly engrossing slow burn. A master class in tension that plays heavily on unsettling social interactions that are peppered with smart details. The score, brown & red color schemes, & a claustrophobic single location does work at creating an atmosphere. Marshall-Green brings a highly emotional performance that deals with tough themes of grief & guilt. It’s a sharp 100 minute screenplay with tons of rewatch value but it could be a bit tighter. See more Robert P @Superbad 6 days ago The Invitation is a 3.5 star Movie! See more Brandon L @stoopih Oct 26, 2026 This would've done wonders as a short film. Otherwise, it's just 50 min of the characters sitting around being oblivious to obvious danger and having uninteresting conversations. The premise itself was interesting even if it was clear what they were going for. Unfortunately they just kept dancing around it milking as much "unease" as they could. It doesn't work after the first 5 times and certainly not after the 20th time. It's also hard when the tension is just built off of the poorly written characters who have zero survival instincts. Everyone gaslights the main protagonist who is the only one with any sort of common sense. I was in and out of sleep until the obvious climax finally arrived, which was pretty interesting, but not worth sitting through the slog that was the rest of the movie. See more Kyle M @RT77296778 Oct 17, 2026 One of those films that are best to watch unsuspiciously, meaning the tension’s psychologically edged behind the underlying grieving pain with obscured darkness attributing to the brewing atmosphere in all its awkward, unshakable strangeness and conviction till the quietly vivid ending.
