Jorge H @jorge02 4d Shitty horror film trying to be like The Monkey. But it's way worse and way boring See more Domer D @RT46720729 4d I was not expecting nothing about this stupid movie See more Andrew H @Brock69 Jan 29 The acting (if you can call it that) was 💩💩💩 definitely wouldn't rate it to anyone to watch even for a laugh See more Cassondra G. @Gigi3 Jan 14 This was excruciating. My daughter’s high school drama class produced more talented actors/actresses. See more TheMovieSearch R @TheMovieSearch Nov 29 The Jolly Monkey attempts to present itself as a horror film, but it struggles to establish a coherent tone or capture the audience’s attention from the start. Right away, the production feels low-budget, and the story fails to create the tension or intrigue necessary for a horror narrative. What should have been suspenseful or creatively unsettling comes across as flat and unengaging. Technical elements such as cinematography, editing, and sound design further undermine the film’s impact. Scenes lack visual cohesion, transitions are jarring, and audio cues fail to enhance mood or atmosphere. Instead of drawing the viewer into the story, the technical shortcomings pull attention away, leaving the film feeling disconnected and, at times, confusing. The overall presentation gives the impression of a rushed or minimally supervised production. The casting does little to salvage the project. Performances are uneven and fail to generate investment in the characters or the narrative. Even key roles lack depth, and interactions feel staged or uninspired. The actors appear to be going through motions rather than embodying the world the film is attempting to build, further weakening the audience’s engagement. Direction also suffers from inconsistency. The filmmaker’s approach seems tentative, vacillating between scenes without establishing a strong stylistic or narrative vision. This lack of focus is evident in both pacing and tone, with moments intended to shock or intrigue falling flat. The screenplay compounds these issues, providing minimal guidance and leaving crucial story elements underdeveloped or incoherent. The titular character—the monkey—was particularly underwhelming. Its development feels arbitrary, and interactions with other characters fail to establish tension, fear, or interest. Additional narrative devices, such as randomly inserted children’s photographs, feel disconnected from the story and contribute to a sense of randomness rather than suspense or horror. Ultimately, The Jolly Monkey is a missed opportunity. With weak direction, poor casting, underdeveloped narrative elements, and technical inconsistencies, the film fails to deliver an effective or memorable horror experience. Audiences seeking thrills or creative storytelling are likely to be left disappointed. See more Melissa L @Agent99 Oct 26 The idea was original, but it dragged on and on. See more Read all reviews
