One of the great political transitions has been re-imagined as a concise road trip in a pastiche of the sort of political play Peter Morgan might have written as a two-hander for the smaller stage. As a film, it doesn't open out.

I suspect that even if the negotiations that brought about that peace were as dry as a bone and completely lacking any form of drama, it still would have been more interesting than this weirdly paced, strangely toned alternative history.

A classic film you can watch every few years and it still brings tears to the eyes. Everyone In Ireland and Britain wanted an end to the problems and though fictional it captures what happened in people's hearts. Finally let it go, move on together. A great film.

Flawed and often tendentious, but redeemed by fine performances from Tim Spall and Colm Meaney, this well-intentioned fictionalisation of the conversation - or rather, lack of it - between two diametrically opposed figureheads from the unionist and nationalist wings of Northern Ireland, Ian Paisley and Martin McGuinness, follows them on the long drive to Edinburgh Airport as they bicker and seethe. There's a good Tony Blair from Toby Stephens, a strangely underused John Hurt as the MI5 head, and a surfeit of very bad wigs.

As stated by others, this is a movie for all. Ubiquitous enjoyment. The first scene pulls one in and never lets go. There is an element of Harold Pinter: much communication is done under the silence. The screenplay, lush cinematography and musical score creates the perfect canvas for stellar actors to exceed in their gifts. Unpredictable, and pleasing: this is a gem of artwork.
