What to Know

Critics Consensus

Leveraging Ben Affleck and Matt Damon's classic chemistry to texturize a friendship tested by greed, The Rip tears into its potboiler setup with compulsively watchable confidence.

The Rip seems highly possible until its overblown climatic end, but even when it succumbs to the action thriller norms, it and the cast always keeps you thoroughly entertained. Go to Full Review

Joe Carnahan's crime thriller feels like a nice throwback to '90s genre pictures, but it pulls a few too many punches. Go to Full Review

I was entertained, even if for the longest stretches I couldn’t have told you who was doing what to whom. Chalk it up as yet another twist in the tale of Matt ‘n’ Ben – two Yin/Yang talents who will be yoked together for eternity. Go to Full Review

While it offers little we haven’t seen, and stumbles a bit at points, the sense of unease we feel confined to essentially one location is well-executed. This feels like what we need from the genre right now. Go to Full Review

It won’t be anyone’s idea of something special, but it does, at least, entertain. Go to Full Review

The ingredients are all there. And certainly, The Rip delivers frequently entertaining bursts thanks largely to the game cast, but it’s not a particularly cohesive whole and leaves a lot of the firecracker potential at the door. Go to Full Review

Jack M @JackMiehof 19h Training Day-light. See more Jeffrey P @vanillavoodoo1 1d Thin on complexity but scratches the itch and doesn’t try to make me think. See more Kh T @KartR 1d The Rip brings back one of Hollywood’s most iconic duos, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, to the screen. The movie begins with an investigative raid that quickly turns into an action thriller, packed with numerous twists and turns along the way. The final sections of the film are pure, high-octane action from start to finish. The lead duo does full justice to their roles, carrying the film with gripping performances throughout. The supporting cast also delivers well, enriching the story, with Sasha Calle standing out in particular. The ending feels a bit dry but is satisfactory nonetheless. Overall, it works well as an early weekend watch to set the tone for the rest of the weekend. See more Mir S @mirsumon9 3d The Rip is a masterful cop drama where Miami police uncover millions, sparking paranoia and betrayal. Matt Damon and Ben Affleck elevate the suspenseful whodunnit with sheer intensity, making it a gripping, unforgettable thriller. See more Daniel W. @RT64819838 5d Great chemistry between old friends Affleck and Damon! Nothing original or even needed to be, just entertaining. See more Alessia B @RT54000142 5d What a waste of time. The movie The Rip is extremely predictable. From the very beginning you can already see where the plot is going, especially when the film makes almost everyone look suspicious except the Mike Ro character. In these kinds of movies, the people the film keeps pointing at as suspects usually end up being innocent, so it becomes easy to guess who the real culprit is very early on. The acting is some of the worst I have seen. Many of the performances feel forced and unconvincing, which makes it hard to stay engaged with the story. On top of that, the occasional Spanish thrown into the dialogue feels random and poorly managed, almost like it is only there to remind you that the story takes place in a place with a big Hispanic population. Overall, the movie feels poorly executed and frustrating to watch. I would not recommend this film even to my worst enemy. See more Read all reviews
